Road Rage Can Be Dangerous To You
Not only can road rage be dangerous to other drivers, but it can actually cause you danger. You never know who is out there having a bad day. That being said, your road rage rant might just push someone else over the edge; and in a society where people carry concealed weapons with them in their cars, you never know who you are going to be pushing your luck with. This is another reason why it is important to maintain your cool when behind the wheel of a car. Think about why you are getting upset; reason with yourself. You will probably find that you are in a rush to get home or have had a bad day- either which could result in you having a short fuse. Why push things further? If the other driver that my boyfriend had angered had been someone different, the outcome could have had much more dire consequences.
When I first met my boyfriend, I remember him telling me a story about an incident involving him and road rage. He was driving on a highway when another driver was driving approximately thirty miles under the speed limit. Annoyed, my boyfriend (who was driving) and one of his friends (who was sitting in the passenger seat), zipped around the slower driver. However, as they returned to their original lane, they cut off the driver who was impeding the flow of traffic. Well, wouldn't you know that that driver followed my boyfriend and his friend back to their house? When they arrived back at their house, the other driver parked his car, got out, went up to my boyfriend and actually punched him in the forehead after leading him on a verbal tirade. My boyfriend, totally unphased by the other driver's reaction simply turned around, ignoring him, and went inside his house.
Did you know that more people waste money on gasoline due to road rage and/or bad driving? It's true. Think about the last time you had a bout of road rage. What was you reaction. Nine times out of ten, people who suffer from road rage also tend to surge in and out of traffic. By this, I am referring to the fact that you will see someone speed ahead of everyone else only to get stuck at the next stop light. Seems kind of silly, doesn't it? Well, unfortunately, to the person who is behind the wheel, this is probably the last thing that they are thinking about. All that they are concerning themselves with is getting to their final destination without completely losing their mind.
Whether you are in a rush and are driving behind someone who is driving way too slow for you; or whether you've just been majorly cut off in traffic by someone to the point where it caused you to slam on your brakes, spilling coffe all over you...The one way NOT to deal with road rage is to get angry. Instead, try to deal with it in other ways.
