Best Auto Transport Companies
Ok...You have been transferred across country. You must fly there as you must arrive the first of the week. How do you get your car(s) there if you do not have time to drive them yourself? Well, the first thing you might want to do is to find a
dependable auto transport
company. One way to find companies that transport automobiles is
to do a Google search. Enter a keyword like
"auto
shippers" into the search bar. The results will bring up an
array of listings, some of which are paid for and others are
organic. (Searched out by relevancy to your keyword by Google at
no cost to the company shown). Some of these companies are
auto transport
brokers and others are the transport companies that own their
trucks.
One of the most misunderstood concepts in the public
understanding of the auto transport business is the difference
between using a broker to arrange the transport or using a
transport company that has their own carriers. Many of the
carriers emphasize that they have their own trucks and are not
brokers, with either veiled or outright references that this is
somehow better for the customer. The fact of the matter is that
there is not a carrier in the country that has the ability to do
timely transport on every vehicle shipped to every corner of the
country. When the carriers receive an order that they cannot
execute in the time period required by the customer, they then act
as brokers, and use the same networks and information that brokers
use to locate a carrier that can handle the transport as required.
So, how do we find the
best auto
transport companies when every one we find claim to be the
best? Do not be deluded by the "bigger the better" syndrome.
After you find a company that catches your interest, there are
a few other things you can do to allay your concerns as to their
reliability.
- Ask if they require a deposit. If they do, is it refundable. If it is, do
you really want to go through the hassle if the situation turns to the point
where you must ask for a refund. If you don't, seek out an
auto transport
company
that assures you they will not charge your card for the deposit or full fee
(depending on the payment arrangement you work out), until the transport
company has dispatched their carrier.
- Ask for references. Some of the better companies will have testimonials on
their website.
- Ask if they have an internal black list of transporters who have proven to
be less than trustworthy. Unfortunately, there are many trucking companies who
provide horrendous and sometimes unethical service. An advantage of using a
broker who compiles such a list is that the chances of you ending up with one
of these companies is greatly diluted.
- Pay attention to the employee that you speak with. Are they courteous? Are
they knowledgeable? Did they answer all your questions to your satisfaction?
- Ask if they can guarantee that they can meet your deadline. If they answer
yes, they are being less than honest. Until the search for a company to
transport your vehicle is launched, no company knows for sure it can meet your
deadline.
- Ask if there are additional charges. If a company provides "additional
insurance coverage", your antenna should be up. Every transport company is
required to provide proof of a 1, 000, 000 liability policy in order to
transport your vehicle. Any comprehensive damage claim is already covered by
your personal insurance.
- Check the company out on AutoTransportReviews.com. You will find that many
"big" companies have tremendous service problems that they impose onto their
customers. If a company has been in business for over five years and is not on
AutoTransportReviews.com, there is a good chance that it is a reliable
company. Many companies do not offer a direct link to the review sites.
Therefore, the companies who do not link that have reviews, very often have
poor reviews.
DO NOT fall victim to the "pay for play" ratings from
the Better Business Bureau. This author has for years been blowing
the whistle, (unfortunately often to deaf ears) about the
underhanded, unreliable "pay to play" ratings provided by the
Better Business Bureau.
The following is excerpted from our home page:
"Another hurdle for the consumer is the often maligned
methodologies used by organizations like the Better Business Bureau. Many think
that if a business is not a member, it is less than credible. Nothing could be
further from the truth. Many businesses simply do not join due to the tactics
used by the BBB.
The fact is, that many businesses are said to be repulsed by
the high handed, extortion like methods that the BBB often uses in their
attempts to get businesses to join. It is incredible how often it is said that
non-members receive poor ratings while members who actually have more
complaints, receive satisfactory performance reviews. It is no wonder that the
public is left in a state of confusion as to where to turn for dependable
service.
As an addendum to this, on November 12th, 2010, the TV news
show, 20/20 revealed an in-depth investigation they did featuring the Better
Business Bureau. That investigation unveiled the ugly truths of the methods used
by this rogue, out of control "non-profit" organization. Methods that this
author has been trying to expose to the masses for years. Unfortunately, the BBB
spin machine kept the unwary masses fooled. Consequently, they did not realize
how foolish it was to rely on the ratings they were given. Today, Connecticut's
attorney general is pushing the Better Business Bureau to stop what he calls a
pay-to-play system that gives its members a ratings boost over non-members.
Bottom line is that you cannot trust the Better Business Bureau to provide
unbiased ratings of businesses. Read more: http://www.philly.com/philly/wires/ap/business/20101112_ap_connagbetterbusinessbureaufavorsmembers.html#ixzz157Ch8sYr
